Oil
Inspired by a traumatizing image of a pelican drowning in a crude oil spill, this piece started my series about environmental injustices on animals. The subjects of the series are birds, animals that represent freedom, yet are trapped by the consequences of human exploitation in nature.
Plastic
The second piece of the Aviary Series about environmental injustices on animals. This piece made of food grade styrofoam is more abstract, representing the complexities of plastic pollution and how they disfigure wildlife to the point of even a bird becoming an almost unrecognizable creature.
Food for Thought
The third piece of the Aviary Series about environmental injustices on animals. This is a critique on modern industrial agricultural practices, with a focus on chicken farming. Farm chickens are injected with hormones and other unnatural chemicals which induces suffering on them as they grow unnatural sizes and body parts for human consumption. This piece served on a black square dish and plated like a dish with real chicken bones forces the audience to make conscious choices about what they eat.
